Resumé Pointers
- Don't cram information onto one page; leave lots of white space.
- Don't go beyond two pages.
- Most hiring managers want employment dates; many won't consider the resumé without them.
- Include your home phone, possibly your office number, and a personal e-mail address (your company e-mail is probably not private).
- When you e-mail a resumé, make sure you send it in a format the recipient's computer can read, usually Word (.doc format).
- Don't use all of Word's bells and whistles. If your resumé can't be "cut and pasted" easily, it might be left for "later."
- Use white or off-white paper and a 12 point typeface. No dark gray or colors, or weird fonts.
- Include a brief statement of accomplishments with each job description.
- Proofread! Don't rely on your spell-checker: it doesn't know grammar or word selection.
- Remember: a resumé does less to generate a job offer than your contacts: Keep networking!
