John Pflug

Not long after settling with his family in Charlotte, NC, John joined a recruiting firm that specialized in recruiting engineers where he was introduced to the ceramics and powder metallurgy industries. Intrigued by the emerging technology, he began talking to people in the industry, going to conferences, reading journals, visiting plants, and generally learning as much as he could about this fascinating and fast-growing field. More than twenty-five years later he still finds the innovations and new developments in ceramics and powder metallurgy fascinating.

More than an interest in the industry drives John in his career, however. He also enjoys getting to know the people who make the fields so dynamic and exciting. Through his contacts with employers and candidates John gets to meet interesting people from all over the country with diverse backgrounds and fascinating stories to tell. Recruiting, for John, is a personal process that involves much more than merely matching a list of employers’ needs with candidates’ skills. For him it is a process that takes special consideration of the individual’s personality, family dynamics, relocation preferences, and many other factors both large and small. It is important to John that, when the contract is signed, the employer, the successful candidate, and his or her family are all confident in the decision.

I've always characterized recruiting as a matchmaking process. I'm pleased when someone I've placed calls up later to tell me how well it's working out. Being in a niche market, I follow individuals and companies over the years, seeing their successes and failures, and I enjoy helping get people into shops where they can build their careers.

When John isn’t matchmaking he might be found fly-fishing in West Virginia or painting the waves on the Carolina coast. He has an excessively gifted wife, two children, and two granddaughters: Emeline the ballerina and Princess Isabelle.
